Wells called The Time Traveller
"one of those men who are too clever to be believed."Duncan
names him "George," perhaps after George Pal. Filby, who
does not have a first name in Wells's book, is named
"David" in Duncan's script. So both Pal and Duncan lend
their given names to the script.
Wells's supporting cast and their film
analogues:
The Time Traveller - his friends call him "George"
Weena - According to Stover, a contraction for
"Rowena"
The Medical Man - the skeptical Dr. Hillyer in Duncan's script
Filby
The Provincial Mayor - Duncan substitutes the drunken
Bridewell for purposes of comic relief
The Very Young Man - Walter Klinger in Duncan's script
